Company Background
Founded in 1890, Bodegas Franco-Españolas is one of the most prominent wineries in La Rioja, Spain. Known for its commitment to quality, the winery is an ambassador of the Rioja brand worldwide. Since 1984, it has been managed by the Eguizábal family, who have continuously innovated to enhance the winery’s operations and expand its wine tourism offerings.
As production demands increased, Bodegas Franco-Españolas faced the challenge of improving its traceability and marking processes to meet regulatory standards and ensure product safety.
The Challenge: Full Product Traceability and Marking
Before partnering with Macsa ID, the winery relied on manual traceability, which presented difficulties in tracking the products throughout the supply chain. With growing regulatory demands and the need for enhanced product traceability, the winery required a fully integrated solution that would seamlessly connect with their ERP system and optimize operations across all packaging levels.
Macsa ID Solution: Complete Marking and Traceability
Macsa ID implemented a comprehensive coding, marking, and traceability system that covered bottle-level traceability, crate labelling, and pallet marking. This solution integrates with the winery’s ERP and warehouse management systems (WMS) for real-time tracking of products at every stage.
Key Technologies:
Macsa HPD Series CO2 Laser:
- Application: High-definition laser marking on glass bottles.
- Technology: This CO2 laser provides clear and permanent marking on fast-moving production lines. The laser’s zenithal position allows it to mark six bottles in a single shot, ensuring 100% traceability at the primary packaging level.
- idTIJ:
- Application: High-resolution inkjet marking on secondary packaging (cardboard boxes).
- Technology: Prints a DataMatrix code on each box, allowing the winery to maintain traceability of the bottles inside. Scanning the 2D code provides instant product information for accurate tracking.
- idBlocks 4042 Labeller:
- Application: Linear labelling of boxes containing wine bottles.
- Technology: The system applies labels with EAN codes and alphanumeric product details, ensuring each box is accurately labelled for easy identification in the supply chain.
idBlocks Pallet 6015:
Application: Pallet labelling for tertiary packaging.
- Technology: Using a robotic arm, the system applies labels on two sides of the pallet in a single stop, regardless of the pallet’s position or height. This ensures full traceability at the tertiary packaging level.
